The Desire Called Utopia and Other Science Fictions

A decade after the publication of the book with the same title by the American theoretician Frederic Jameson, his theses have become the springboard for an exhibition in the Nassauischer Kunstverein Wiesbaden. Jameson’s theses discuss two divisive characteristics of the age of globalization. On that point, artistic statements from all over the world, mainly moving images, are part of the exhibition project. They make the aspect of the strange and differentness of other and future worlds the subject of discussion. What social importance do stunning new technologies in the “first world” have and in what relation Science Fiction und utopian dream stand is discussed by representing the otherness and the life in foreign realities.
