Born and raised in London and Harare to British-Zimbabwean parents, Mark Tonderai started his career as a DJ host on BBC Radio 1. He has since become a successful writer and director in television and cinema, i.e. directing episodes of DOCTOR WHO and series for major streamers and networks (Netflix’s LOCKE AND KEY; Hulu’s CASTLE ROCK; Fox’s GOTHAM) As a cinema director, he is best known for the 2012 horror-mystery HOUSE AT THE END OF THE STREET starring Jennifer Lawrence and Max Thieriot. The film made over $66 million at the worldwide box office. In 2021, Tonderai directed Paramount Pictures’ thriller-horror feature, SPELL.
