As fascist systems gain international traction, we have to ask who profits from the confluence of ecocide, racialized genocide and femicide and how can artists intervene in a global narrative that privileges the few at the expense of the many? Award-winning eco-artist Aviva Rahmani will address these questions in a master class. What are the root narrative drivers? Are there ways to expand the discourse to be more inclusive and democratic? Where do energy concerns and the consequences of climate change and climate refugees fit into our narratives? Aviva Rahmani is convinced: new paradigms are emerging. And art can represent change as a shift in perception.

Humankind is now undergoing the most extraordinary creative, cultural, and technological (r)evolution. Digital creation tools and hardware have shaken up established hierarchies, allowing anyone to express their creative impulse in the highest artistic capacity. Platforms with extraordinary network effects and economies of scale have boosted creators into superstars. Advances in Algorithmic, Data, and Artificial Intelligence tools such as Dall E, Mid journey, or Synthetic Audio have given us deep insights into how to better tailor content and conjure synthetic images, voices, and videos indistinguishable from real humans. And above all, the explosion of avatars, graphic processing, real-time game engines, and the Web3 will soon drive us to experience collaboration between the real and the imagined in creativity, work, and play.
What does this new "real-time reality" mean for us as humans and creators? How is it challenging and transforming our spheres of culture, creativity, and business when an average person spends half of their day with a video screen and with moving content or an algorithmic social media platform acquires half a billion new clients every month? Where, how, and when is the Metaverse coming, and what role are independent creators going to play?
The masterclass by Sten-Kristian Saluveer - Europe and Japan-based film and technology visionary, producer, curator, innovation strategist, and entrepreneur - will explore the most critical waves of technological innovations and transitions that push us towards the new paradigm for Creativity 3.0 and what skills, tools, and resources creatives need to surf the wave of this unprecedented (r)evolution.Informations:

Turning one's creativity into a profession and being able to make a living from it - that is the great desire of many creative professionals. To achieve this, however, the output of their creative work must also be relevant to the market.
The market in the moving image sector is constantly expanding. New technologies are being made marketable, and the proliferation of media such as virtual reality goggles is advancing. In addition to the technology, however, it is primarily the content transported via it that is the cornerstone for market acceptance. These must be prepared and edited accordingly so that they fit the respective medium and the user accepts them.
This naturally raises the question of whether creativity is not suffering under the dictates of market relevance, and how one can possibly counteract this. In such cases, it's good to have someone who believes in you, knows the market and is there to offer advice and support, such as experienced producers or festival directors.
Frédéric Boyer, artistic director of the Tribeca Film Festival, and Torre Schmidt, a German producer who has consolidated his career in Hollywood, will give an insight into their work: At what point do creatives and their work attract the interest of film producers or marketing platforms like festivals? What do they need to bring to the table, and which skills are particularly relevant? Above all, the two will also give an overview of what the producer-side market is currently demanding and will demand in the future.

Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality. Brave new worlds or the way into the matrix? Opportunities and risks and an outlook into a possible future full of new impressions. with Maria Courtial (VR director and producer; GER), Arif Khan (writer and director; UK), Giovanni Fantoni Modena (filmmaker, VR developer; IT). According to a Forbes article from earlier this year, "the forecast for global sales of virtual reality products is US$22.37 billion by 2025. Up to 74 million VR goggles are expected to be sold annually by 2024. So virtual reality products have long ceased to be a niche business." Virtual reality and its extension augmented reality are not only used in industrial or medical areas, for example, but are increasingly becoming a medium for edutainment and in the narrative and documentary segment. The user is enabled to spatially experience or influence events and stories.
The end user thus becomes a passive or active part of the experience, and not through his or her own imagination. Content thus becomes even more of a sensory experience. In short keynote speeches, artists and producers from the VR/AR field will introduce themselves and their works and then talk together in a panel about the opportunities and risks that their personal focus on this relatively new medium entails and which relevant social, creative and technological transformations could be initiated by them in the near future. A must for anyone who wants to take a little peek into the future.
Presenting and discussing:Maria Courtial, Virtual Reality pioneer and successful entrepreneur. She takes us back in history and to the dawn of all time. Arif Khan, classic narrative content producer and horror expert. He takes us to scary worlds.Giovanni Fantoni Modena, filmmaker, VR developer and the Scotty of virtual reality, who can beam us into the infinite reaches of space.

It's a well-known fact that money isn't just lying around on the street, but once you've successfully benefited from funding, you don't want to miss it.
The European model of national, regional, but also international film, media and cultural funding is thus almost a blessing, as it keeps culture going and enables many people to earn a living. Nevertheless, we ask heretically whether this kind of funding still makes sense in the old tried-and-tested form in times of media (over-)globalization? The market is flooded with content of all kinds and many of the funded projects receive even less attention than before.
Shouldn't new forms of project funding be designed and implemented instead? We ask funders about their plans for the future and what they think is important to ensure that there is no end to the blessings and that more projects can be funded and noticed.
Among others, the wonderfully eloquent and imaginative Anna Schoeppe (HessenFilm und Medien GmbH; CEO), the smart and far-sighted Adrian Wootton (Film London and British Council; CEO) will discuss. A must for all who want to be promoted and seen in the future.

The "classic" art market is changing. The Internet and its financial market serve as an accelerator for new directions for a market that primarily follows established paths.
Thus, in addition to the financial component of the crypto market, one thing in particular has emerged for creators: The platforms on which they can present their content and art are ideally suited to market themselves and become known, or to increase their level of awareness even further. Creatives who previously could not place their art on the physical market have suddenly become trendy artists, and not just in terms of their NFTs. The market is now flooded with artists and their content. But there is still a certain gold-rush atmosphere. In general, though, what do creators need to look out for to survive in markets, whether traditional or crypto, and what opportunities do they have to raise their profile? What do collectors like? What is their driving force to collect and support? Established art collector Mario von Kelterborn, successful NYC artist and all-rounder Federico Solmi and renowned NFT artist Gavin Shapiro discuss this and show ways to possible success.

Due to the enormous transformation processes that society is currently undergoing, in our focus on democracy we explore which sociopolitical systems might take the lead in the world in the future. The question arises whether democracy is not increasingly decomposing itself democratically. What would this mean for society and the individual? Democracy seems to be the only practicable form of government for us in westernized countries. However, the majority of people today live in autocracies, for example.
Societies and individuals are confronted with the question of how far they are willing to accept freedom as the freedom of those who think differently, to quote Rosa Luxemburg, who formulated it so aptly 100 years ago. What would therefore have to change in order for the notorious social gap not to widen so much and for the majority of humanity to be able to live together in a more peaceful and civilized way? What role can and should creatives play as portraitists, chroniclers and critics of our time or as visionaries with a view to a possible future within processes of change? What form of society would be right for them and in their eyes?
Experts, thinkers and creatives will discuss these questions live in a panel and with the audience. Dr. Mariana Bozesan will give an introductory keynote on the topic. Afterwards, Dr. Mariana Bozesan, Dr. Emilia Roig, Prof. Dr. Stefan Brunnhuber and Ismaël Joffroy Chandoutis will discuss live in a panel and with the audience.

Jedes Klangelement im Film ist eine Lüge. Warum?

From the very beginning of film history, especially since their mass appeal, fictional and non-fictional films, respectively moving images and their narratives have played a major role for state systems and thus also for democracies. We need narratives in communication for democracy.
Narratives, framing and attitude are important communication keys for any form of state. Yet it matters a great deal what doors these keys unlock and what worldviews, values, and truths are behind them and communicated. This raises the question of how much independence film, the moving image and its narrative need in order to strengthen democracy? Does independent communication exist at all? People like whistleblowers contribute to the correction of narratives and in the best case strengthen independent communication and free forms of government, like democracy. In today's world, whistleblower protection is especially important for the freedom of film and media makers.
How can free communication be guaranteed, and what is the role of this so important protection of those who try to find the right keys to the door that leads to the truth? Award-winning filmmaker and moderator Dr. Ina Knobloch will discuss this with distinguished guests.

Journalism must be able to be free to a certain extent in research and in the expression of opinions, and often and increasingly it cannot. Courageous journalists in restrictive regimes show us what the fourth power in the state can achieve and how it must act in order to make itself heard and maintain a critical voice. What does the future offer in order to be able to freely express one's opinion in a democratic sense? This conversation teaches us what is possible to make one's voice heard and when one reaches one's limits due to political repression or ethical constraints. A conversation with Veronika Munk, tba.
