Metamorfoza is close to Shostakovich’s music. After the 1917 revolution Shostakovich remained in the Soviet Union suffering under the Stalin regime. His 7th Symphony (1941) was dedicated to “victory over the ene- my.” Officially he meant the Nazis but between the lines he indicted Stalin. The theme of hidden truth is central to Colburn’s film. Using stop frame animation this film features dolls and is accompanied by the composition of Juan Felipe Waller. The film was made possible by Col- lection de Bruin-Heijn and the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra.
